A Trial By Fire: Coach Nate Brugnara's OCR Journey and the Path He Paved for Others

His pulse was racing, the wind howling, hail beating down on his face.  His senses heightened, excitement stirring, and the adrenaline kicking in.  Coach Nate Brugnara stood at the starting line of his first Obstacle Course Race (OCR), fully focused on the monumental challenge in front of him. 

Nate's journey into the world of OCR was more than just a personal challenge; it was a tribute to his mother's triumph over breast cancer.  Back in 2012, Nate's first OCR race was a leap into the unknown, fueled by a desire to honor his mother's strength. Little did he know that this very race would spark a fire within him, propelling him to the esteemed position of helping inspire others to live into a more capable version of themselves.

Knee-deep in a marsh, hail stinging his face, hypothermia gnawing at his bones, and his racing partner vanishing midway, it was in these moments of adversity, during this trial by fire, that Nate faced a pivotal choice —give in or rise above.  Nate's unwavering determination to conquer this race, created a powerful turning point that ignited a strong belief in himself and a mission of making OCR more accessible to anyone, regardless of their skill level. 

So he immersed himself in the training.  Drawing inspiration from a wealth of knowledge from his own experiences of racing over 220 miles in a single year and from experts of all disciplines.  Absorbing what was useful, discarding what was useless, and adding what was uniquely his own, Nate has channeled his profound journey into a roadmap for others to conquer their own obstacles.  As the founder of the OCR Champions Academy, Nate draws from his extensive experience in the world of OCR to help fitness enthusiasts challenge themselves and rewrite their stories.
